‘Kochi Knights’ could be riding on a dark horse

 FIBA recognized 3x3 Pro Basketball League in India will continue with the 3rd round in Kolkata


After the completion of the first two rounds of the highly anticipated FIBA recognized 3x3 Pro Basketball League (3BL), the first of its kind in India, ‘Kochi Knights’ stand fourth in the competition. For a chance to qualify for the FIBA 3x3 World Tour in Utsunomiya, Japan, on the 28th and 29th July 2018, Kochi Knights would need to overtake the first 4 teams by the end of the third round.

The inaugural season of 3BL has received great response from Basketball enthusiastswho were long awaiting the basketball hype in India. After the first 2 rounds in Delhi and Aizawl, ‘Delhi Hoopers’ are ahead of the other 11 teams with 200 points. The second on the list are ‘Ahmedabad Wingers’ with 150 points, followed by ‘Chennai Icons’ and ‘Hyderabad Ballers’ with 115 points each. ‘Kochi Knights’ stand 4th with 100 points, only 15 points lesser than ‘Chennai Icons’ and ‘Hyderabad Ballers’, making it easier for them to grab the first place in the third round. 

Seeing the difference in the scores, ‘Kochi Knights’ still notice a fair chance of defeating the 4 teams to gain the lead and bag their place in the World Tournament’s leg in July. With a total of 6 rounds for this season, the league will continue with the third round in Kolkata on the 7th and 8th of July, 2018. The winning team of the third round in Kolkata will be playing in the World Tour’s leg in Utsunomiya, Japan, on 28th and 29th of July, 2018. 

About 3BL:3BL has been recognized as a medal sport for the 2020 Olympics. This shorter and faster format of the traditional 5x5 basketball version has just 10 minutes of gameplay, and consists of only half the size of the court and only 3 players on court with the 4th player on rotation basis. This is the first ever introduction of this modern sport in India with 12 teams in total –‘Delhi Hoopers’, ‘Chandigarh Beasts’, ‘Jaipur Regals’, ‘Aizawl Legends’, ‘Kolkata Warriors’, ‘Ahmedabad Wingers’, ‘Bangalore Machas’, Goa Snipers’, ‘Kochi Knights’, ‘Hyderabad Ballers’, ‘Chennai Icons’ and ‘Mumbai Hustlers’. The first round was held in Delhi on the 9th and 10th of June, followed by the second one in Aizawl on 23rd and 24th June. After the third round in Kolkata, the league will further continue in Chennai and Bangalore, and the final round will be held in Mumbai on the 25th and 26th of August 2018.
