International Day of Radiology observed

The Thiruvananthapuram chapter of Indian Radiological and Imaging Association(IRIA) and KIMS Hospital Thiruvananthapuram jointly organised the sixth International Day of Radiology on Nov 8th at Thiruvananthapuram.

 

The District level inauguration of the celebrations was done byKIMS Health care group Vice President and Director Padmasree Prof:  G. Vijayaraghavanat the KIMSConference Hall here yesterday.

 

The International Day of Radiology is an annual event held with the aim of building greater awareness of the value that radiology contributes to safe patient care, and improving understanding of the vital role radiologists play in the healthcare continuum.

 

Dr. Pradeep S, the Central Council member, IRIA and Senior Radiologist, KIMS welcomed the gathering.This year “Emergency radiology” has been chosen as the main theme of the day, to highlight the essential role that radiologists play in the emergency room, increasing the quality of care and treatment of patients, said Dr. Pradeep. S.

 

Medical imaging is one of the most exciting disciplines in health care and in its 122nd year of invention.  But the value of these services is not well understood by the public. IRIA, over the years byorganising such celebrations to bring in more public attention to this area of medical science, he added.

 

Dr. M. Venugopal, President IRIA Kerala Chapter, who was the guest of honour spoke about the importance of sub-specialties in Radiology. Dr. Manoj T Pillai, President, Trivandrum City Chapter IRIA presided over the function. Dr. MadhavanUnni, Senior Consultant and Coordinator, Department of Radiology, KIMS proposed the vote of thanks. 

 

After the inaugural session a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session was there, which includedtalks and paper presentations of leading Radiologists.DrAnoop TChakravarthi presented a paper on the Emergency Radiology while Dr Suresh Kumar V K talked on Radiology in critical care. The next session saw the presentation on Imaging in Emergency Radiology by DrDheerajBindal and Dr Manish Kumar Yadav spoke on the role of interventional Radiology. In the concluding sessionDrJayadevan E R through light on Acute Stroke Management.

The day is a joint initiative of the European Society of Radiology (ESR) the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) and the American College of Radiology (ACR) , with the full cooperation and involvement of the International Society of Radiology (ISR), as well as umbrella organisations on all continents, including the Asian Oceanian Society of Radiology (AOSR), the ColegioInteramericano de Radiología (CIR), the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR), and the Radiological Society of South Africa (RSSA – which also represents neighbouring countries). The European Federation of Radiographer Societies (EFRS) also supports the International Day of Radiology.
