“Gender equality in workplaces will help to increase productivity and country's GDP” remarked Dr Asha Thomas IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Labour, Skills & Excise Departments, Govt. of Kerala. “Mckency findings show that the income of organisations has increased when women are given equal treatment” said  Dr. Asha Thomas while rendering the inaugural address at the Workshop on Women Empowerment in  Factories organized by FICCI  along with SWASTI and Walmart Foundation.

“The conception of the civil society needs to change against working women which will actually lead to empowerment of women.  One of the reasons why women do not come up in the male dominated employment areas and tend to find more safety in jobs and profession which are more conducive to women is the fear of sexual harassment of women in the workplace.  Now day’s women are capable of taking up employment and profession in almost all areas which are predominately male dominated; but the perception of working women in the society and the need to balance the responsibility of women between house-hold responsibilities and responsibilities at workplace is preventing many women from taking up challenging employment opportunities” added  Dr. Asha Thomas.

Joseph Julian, Director, Swasti,  KK Pillai, Chairman, Nikasu Group,  Suchithra Menon, Director & CEO, WFB Baird & Company (India) Pvt. Ltd. and  SP Kamath, Executive Director, Amalgam Group  also spoke on the occasion. Deepak L Aswani,  Co-Chair, FICCI Kerala State Council welcomed the gathering and Savio Mathew, Head, FICCI KESC proposed vote of thanks.
