Economically backward people should be empowered, says Muhammad Yunus

 The economically backward peoples should be empowered in order to bring a marginalised society said Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus while launching the Annual Lecture Series of ESAF held at Lulu International Convention Centre at Thrissur.  He also said that ESAF is a role model for the society. By arranging this platform ESAF aims to bring eminent personalities in the field of social business to deliver inspirational lecture in order to make people think and act differently.

 

In order to help the poor you should first create banks for the poor, which is a completely different system,"ESAF is one among them said the acclaimed economist.

 

He also added that poverty is not created by the poor people themselves, but by the system "we built around us”. The current economic system will explode if it is not changed completely to reverse the flow of wealth.

 

During the session the Indian edition of his new book ‘World of three zeros The new Economics of Zero Poverty Zero Unemployment and Zero Net Carbon emissions’ was released by Prof. Dr .RajendrakumarAnayath, Vice Chancellor of Haryana State Science and Technology University by handing over a copy to Prof K.V Peter, Former  Vice Chancellor of Kerala Agricultural University.

 

A question and answer session for students from different educational institutions with Prof. Muhammad Yunus, was also conducted. The 26th anniversary Souvenir of ESAF was also released by Prof Muhammad Yunus.  George K John, Executive Vice President, ESAF Small Finance Bank received the first copy.

 

During the event Prof Mohammed Yunus presented the first ESAF Social Business Award to Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society. The award was received by RameshanPaleri , President of Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society. Sale of “Suvidirice”cultivated organically at AdattOnpathuMuriPadashekharam was also inaugurated byProf. Muhammad Yunusby handingover the first packet to TS Pattabhiraman, Chairman, Kalyan Silks at the event.

 

K Paul Thomas, Founder, ESAF presided the event.Mereena Paul, Chairman of ESAF Cooperative, Jacob Samuel, Co-founder ESAF,  Prof.Elizabeth John,President ESAF society, Dr.IdicheriaNinan, Vice President ESAF Society ,R Prabha, Chairman ESAF Small Finance Bank, Alok Thomas Paul, Director ESAF Retail Pvt.Ltd, EmyAcha Paul, Director ESAF Retail Pvt.Ltd George Thomas ,Chairman, Esaf Staff welfare trust, RameshanPaleri , President of Uralungal labour contract cooperative society, to TS Pattabhiraman, Chairman, Kalyan Silks, Prof. Dr .RajendrakumarAnayath, Vice Chancellor of Haryana State, Prof.K V Peter Former Vice Chancellor Kerala Agricultural Universitywere also spoken.
