Mercedes-Benz records its highest ever sales in India

Maintains its leadership and winning brand position in the dynamic Indian luxury car industry, for the third consecutive year ‘The Best Keeps Leading’ is the guiding philosophy for 2018
Sold 2,289,344 units globally (+9.9%) in 2017, retaining its leadership in premium car brand globally 


India’s largest luxury car brand Mercedes-Benz  announced a historic sales record achievement by clocking the highest ever yearly, half-yearly and also Q4 sales in 2017. By registering record sale of 15,330 units in the January to December 2017 period, Mercedes-Benz grew its sales volumes by a robust 15.9%, firmly maintaining its strong hold on the dynamic Indian luxury car industry.

Roland Folger, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India commented, “Mercedes-Benz today remains the most preferred luxury car brand in India and our increasing sales volumes, firmly underlines the customer’s trust on a winning brand. Our market strategy is well-founded and highly customer centric, enabling us to contribute to the economy by doubling our volumes in the span of few years. 2017 was a successful year for us and the decision to introduce the Long Wheelbase E-Class was strategic and highly successful. We are in particular very satisfied with the strong growth in volumes in the C-Class, E-Class and the SUV segment which remains the mainstay of our portfolio. Clocking more than 15,000 sales units is one of the many first-of-its kind achievements for Mercedes Benz in the luxury car segment in India, and we are glad to achieve them and spearhead the industry, firmly.”

Segment wise growth: The luxury sedan segment grew by double-digit growth and the introduction of the Long Wheelbase E-Class significantly contributed to the volumes, making the ‘Made in India’ E-Class the first choice of customers in 2017. The GLC, GLE and GLS continue to retain the tag of the highest selling SUV in their respective categories, and contributed strongly to the SUV segment. The SUV segment from Mercedes-Benz also grew by double digit in 2017. The performance and sports-car brand, Mercedes-AMG achieved double-digit growth in 2017, reiterating Mercedes-Benz’s strong dominance in the performance car segment. Additionally, the New Generation Cars continued its success story with a high conquest rate, ensuring Mercedes-Benz remained the most preferred choice for the dynamic, affluent and young Indians.

Folger further elaborated, “Our sales success in 2017 makes us confident of our sustained leadership in the Indian luxury car market. Our 2018 strategy, ‘The Best Keeps Leading’ is based on this market success and confidence and aims to further deepen our commitment for our patrons. With the customers at the focal point, ‘The Best Keeps Leading’ strategy will see Mercedes-Benz’s product offensive intensify and fascinate, innovative after-sales services delight, qualitative network expansion strengthened and novel brand initiatives excite, our patrons. Mercedes-Benz will continue to innovate and redefine personal mobility space and customer centricity, which remained core to ‘The Best Keeps Leading’ strategy.

In 2018, Mercedes-Benz will introduce fascinating products, many without a predecessor in India. There will be a range of exciting AMG products that will make their India debut in 2018, enhancing the ‘driving performance’ for the AMG enthusiasts. Mercedes-Benz also plans to implement innovative after-sales initiatives and consolidate existing service initiatives. The Three Pointed Star will not only expand its retail network in newer markets, but also enhance the luxury experience across its dealership through innovative luxury elements. In 2018, Mercedes-Benz will also more than before offer memorable brand experiences for its discerning customers with special focus on emerging Tier II and Tier III markets. Benchmarking experiential events with new innovations like Brand Tour, LuxeDrive and AMG Performance Tours will remain highlight of 2018.
